How this curriculum works

This site teaches LLMs by opening real models and reading what is actually inside them. When a lesson says “Qwen3-0.6B has 28 layers”, that number was read from the model’s own config.json, not copied from a blog.

Three kinds of numbers appear, and they are always marked:

Measured

Produced by a script in this repo’s labs/ folder, on a real model. You can re-run it and get the same result.

Source

Taken from a paper, official documentation, a model card or a config file, with a link.

Illustration

A made-up example to explain an idea (for instance, round numbers in a diagram). Never presented as a fact about a real model.

Reading order

You don’t have to go 00 → 16. Two good routes:

  • “I want to understand the ViC305-style posts”: 05 (repo files) → 06 (number formats) → 07 (quantization, including top-1 and KL divergence) → 13 (recipes) → 08 (experts). These are the modules ready now.
  • “I want the whole picture”: 01 → 02 → 03 → 04, then 05 → 09, then 10 → 12, then 14 → 16.

Finding things

  • Search (press / or Ctrl/⌘ K) covers every lesson section and the glossary.
  • Dotted words like bpw or KL divergence show a short definition on hover. Click to open the glossary.
  • “Go deeper” boxes hide the maths. Skip them on a first read.
  • Progress: tick “Mark module as done” at the bottom of a module. It’s saved in your browser only.
